Ever since CFA Institute included seagull spreads in its Level III currency management reading, candidates in online fora (first AnalystForum, then Reddit) have argued / debated about what these things are, how their payoffs appear, how to construct them, and so on. In 2021, I wrote a series of articles on my website about these critters. More recently, several candidates have asked me to put those articles into a single .pdf file.
So, I did.
Here, then, is a comprehensive discussion about seagull spreads. Because this is a compilation of five articles – each of which was written to stand alone – it will naturally be somewhat repetitive. However, I’d rather tell you more than you need to know rather than less. At least there are lots of pictures.
